Traffic Camera Uptime Report
We run our own HTTP checks against every official state DOT traffic camera in this directory, on a rolling schedule, around the clock. This page reports what those checks find: how many cameras are verified live right now, how many respond but serve an old picture, and how many are dead. No agency self-reporting involved.
- Best-run network measured: South Dakota at 99.4% of 692 cameras verified live.
- Lowest live share: Massachusetts at 51.1% (152 of 311 cameras stale or dead right now).
- Most stale frames: Georgia, where 2.8% of cameras respond but show an out-of-date image, an easy failure to miss, since the picture looks fine until you check its timestamp.

Not ranked: Anchorage Metro, Des Moines Metro. The 14-day error share for their cameras (or their state) is too high to publish a rate; the live counts on their own pages are per-camera check results and stand.
14-day rate not yet measurable: Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa. Too many of our checks on these feeds ended in errors rather than a clear live or dead answer, so no uptime percentage is published for them until the error share drops. The live counts on their own pages are unaffected: each is a per-camera result from the latest successful check, not a rate.

How many cameras were verified live, stale, or dead, and how the week compared with the last, for one state or the whole country. The same numbers as this report, with the same caveats.

Methodology
- Every active camera is checked on a rolling schedule; a check fetches the camera's image or stream endpoint directly from the agency.
- Live means the feed responded with a current image. Stale means it responded, but the image is older than the camera's own refresh interval suggests it should be. Dead means the feed is not returning a usable image.
- 14-day uptime is, for each camera, the share of its valid checks in the last 14 days that came back live, averaged across the cameras. Each camera counts once. Cameras that are down get re-checked more often than working ones, so a share of all checks pooled together runs lower. The JSON also publishes that pooled figure as
checkLivePct. - Checks where our checker itself failed are excluded from every number on this page.
- When we find a measurement fault on our side, we exclude the affected checks rather than publish numbers we know are wrong. Currently excluded: August 27-31, 2026, when a caching bug in our checker made healthy cameras look out of date. States without enough valid checks after an exclusion are listed as not yet measurable until fresh evidence accumulates.
- September 26, 2026: our checker began downloading each image and recognizing the cards agencies show when a camera is offline. Before that, offline cards in Utah and Wisconsin passed as live because their timestamps kept updating. Both states' live share fell about 2 to 3 points after the change. Those cameras were already showing the card before it.
- Only fleets of 50 or more cameras are ranked, so small partial feeds do not distort the comparison.
- Snapshot figures refresh continuously as checks complete; this page is regenerated every few minutes.
